Principal

Mrs. Donna Sutton taught for 16 years, six of which were here at Sacred Heart School before becoming Sacred Heart's current principal in 2006. Mrs. Sutton created the drama program at SHS in 2000, and directed six musicals.

She received her Bachelor's Degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY; worked in the advertising and publishing profession for 13 years; and received her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from St. John's University in 2001. Mrs. Sutton also holds a Master's Degree in Administration from St. Thomas Aquinas College, which she received in 2009. She is certified by New York State as a School Building Leader (SBL).

Before coming to Sacred Heart, Mrs. Sutton taught 6th grade at New Windsor School, and grades 4, 5 and 6 at St. Sebastian School in Woodside, Queens. She presented district-wide workshops on Portfolio Use and Writing Instruction. She holds memberships in: the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE); the NAESP (National Association of Elementary School Principals); NMSA (National Middle School Association); the ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development); and was the Camp Director at Manitoga Art & Nature Camp in 2004 and 2005.

Mrs. Sutton truly believes in Catholic Education and is dedicated to the Sacred Heart School Family. She is honored to be principal, and is excited about the future of Sacred Heart School. She has led the faculty in bringing about a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and their collaboration to introduce Formative Assessment to guide Differentiated Instruction and Multiple Intelligence activities in order to reach every student. She is currently working with stakeholders to revamp the Middle School and the PreSchool in order to provide those students with a model that research has shown to be advantageous for all.
