Summer Reading and Math for Students Entering Grade 2

Dear Parents,

We at SHS believe that reading is a worthwhile and fun way to fill the summer months. Here is a list of grade appropriate books which you may find in your local library. Visiting the library can be fun and it's the best source to find good book. A trip to a bookstore can be an adventure also. Hopefully your child will read many books this summer. Parents, please pick 10 books your child has read over the summer and print the title and author on the log you received. (Your child's printing will be too big for the given space.) Your child should bring the log to SHS on the first day of school to receive credit for summer reading.

Students entering second grade must have memorized facts to 20 in addition and subtraction. Mastery of these basic facts is necessary for success in math.

If time permits, your child may enjoy keeping a journal describing experiences over the summer. Simply write 3 sentences in any notebook, add a date and draw a picture to relive a fun event. This is a good way to practice writing skills and remember summer fun.

Have a happy and safe summer! See you in September!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Krachy
