Summer Reading for Students Entering Grade 5

Dear Parents,

The children will be required to read 2 books over the summer. A list has been provided to help you choose a book. This is a suggested list of books to choose from. Your child also has the option of reading a Newberry Award book or another suitable, age-appropriate book. For each book, they need to write a 2-page book report with the following information.

  • Hand drawn cover
  • Title
  • Author
  • Setting
  • Number of pages
  • Main character(s)
  • Summary of book
  • An opinion of the book with a reason to support the opinion

These reports are due back by Friday, September 5th.

This will be your child's first reading grade for the first quarter. Happy summer and Happy Reading! I'll see you in September.

- Mrs. Grillo
