Music

Mr. Alcruz is an advocate of project-based learning, believing that musical concepts are best learned in the context of active musical experiences. Our music classroom is a practice and performance space, as well as a fully-functional recording studio. The use of current digital audio and video recording equipment not only helps to motivate the children but also provides work product for ongoing assessment.

Our goal is to produce two CD projects, one at Christmastime and one in the spring, fully downloadable from the internet. The monthly school assemblies, the Christmas and Spring concerts, the school musical: all serve to provide meaningful learning opportunities.

Consistently preparing for the First Friday masses leads to a gradual acquisition of a solid repertoire of liturgical music. Parents and pupils are encouraged to re-visit, enjoy, and assess their portfolio of work through our various websites (our main website, Sacred Heart Sings!, as well as the CD website, and a video website).
